Description

Premium Frankovka, also known as Kefrankos or Blaufrankisch, crafted from handpicked grapes with reduced yield in the best available VOC quality.

Grapes harvested in Modré hory, which translates to “Blue Mountains,” is a distinguished wine-growing microregion nestled in the heart of South Moravia, Czech Republic. Despite the country’s strong reputation for white wines, Modré hory stands out as a center of excellence for red wine production.

This picturesque region encompasses five traditional wine villages — Velké Pavlovice, Bořetice, Kobylí, Němčičky, and Vrbice — all part of the broader Velkopavlovická wine subregion. The name “Modré hory” poetically refers to the blue-skinned grape varieties grown here, such as Frankovka (Blaufränkisch), Svatovavřinecké (St. Laurent), and Modrý Portugal.

With its ideal climate, rolling vineyards, and centuries-old winemaking traditions, Modré hory has become a symbol of quality red wine in the Czech Republic. For wine lovers seeking something unique off the beaten path, this region offers not only exceptional wines but also rich culture, scenic beauty, and authentic Moravian hospitality.

Horak’s Winery stands out by ageing these wines for a minimum of two years in oak barrels, while also skillfully incorporating acacia wood. The result? A ruby-colored, elegantly dry red wine with balanced tannins, boasting dominant cherry aromas and fruity tones.
