Introducing Palava, a unique grape cultivated by Mr. Veverka in 1953 through the crossing of Gewürztraminer and Müller Thurgau varieties. This exceptional grape thrives in the Mikulov sub-region, showcasing a golden yellow color and aromatic notes reminiscent of roses, sweet spices, fruits, and floral tones from its Gewurtztraminer parent. Palava offers a beautifully aromatic, mildly fresh, and long-lasting taste, making it an excellent choice for food pairing. While primarily cultivated in the Czech Republic, it can also be found in small quantities in Slovakia. A truly distinctive grape variety worth exploring!
Palava 2021 from Castle Winery Bzenec (Zamecke Vinarstvi Bzenec or ZVB) is a large winery with own 540 ha vineyards. Palava samples is originated from prestigious terroir in Mikulov sub-region (vineyards Milovicka). The vineyards are young planted in 2017-2018 on east oriented slopes with a good access to sunshine. The grapes were harvested on 12-13th October and their sugar level was 21,5°.
The topsoil is sapric with loess-clay sub-surface. Quite heavy, with high elements of clay and lime. Winery has very similar soil at their prestigious terroir “Za Cihelnou” which produce annually the best quality Rieslings.
